The Best Place to Stay Near Heathrow Airport in London, UK
When searching for accommodation while traveling abroad, I always start with a map search. Sure, if you search up the map for Heathrow Airport, there are TONS of hotel suggestions nearby. There are some really great ones too, if you’re wanting to be as close as humanly possible to the airport!
I on the other hand, like to search up something a little different. Did you know that England has 1000’s of years of history hosting travelers at crossroads and major stop-overs? Coaching Inn’s and Taverns were very popular, and some are still around today.
The History of the ‘Pub’ in the UK
‘Public Houses’ AKA Pubs in the UK have long been a cornerstone of British culture, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere to both locals and travelers alike.
For centuries, these establishments have served as a refuge for weary travelers, providing not just a place to rest, but a chance to connect with the local community.
Pubs have always been an integral part of British society. They go beyond just a place to grab a pint. Pubs have also been known for serving hearty meals, ensuring that visitors don’t just leave with their thirst quenched, but also with their hunger satisfied.
Why You Should Stay in a Pub
When you step into a pub, it’s not just about ordering a drink; it’s about experiencing a piece of the local culture.
Friendly faces, the familiar sounds of conversation, and the cozy ambiance create a sense of belonging, even if you’ve never been there before. This tradition of hospitality is one of the reasons pubs have remained so integral to British life.
Staying in a pub takes this experience to the next level. Not only do you get to enjoy the food and drink, but you also get to immerse yourself in the local culture overnight.
It’s a unique way to experience the charm of the area, waking up to the sounds of the village or town around you, with a hearty breakfast often waiting downstairs.
A pub stay offers comfort, convenience, and a true taste of British hospitality, making it an ideal choice for those looking to fully embrace their travels.

The Welcome
Upon arriving at The Kings Arms Pub in Egham, we were warmly greeted by the manager and promptly checked in. There was plenty of parking near the rear of the building, set aside especially for guests.
I immediately loved the traditional pub ambiance with the moody paint colors, and bright and shiny draught taps on display.
We were informed of the times breakfast was served in the morning, and what time we could order dinner that evening should we find ourselves hungry.
The manager helped take our luggage upstairs and showed us to our beautiful family suite.
The Fitzwalter, the Super King Suite
We were greeted by a beautiful and tastefully decorated suite with king size bed, and additional single bed and full ensuite bathroom.

On the dresser we found our complimentary welcome drink – a British favorite – Sloe Gin, along with complimentary teas and Nespresso coffee maker.
We had 3 large suitcases and although it was a bit of a tight squeeze, we managed just fine. There was a handy rack to hang up clothes we did not want wrinkled.
The beds were very comfortable, not too hard and not too soft. High quality linens were used to furnish them. Our stay was during the summer, and although there is no air-conditioning at this hotel, we still found the temperature comfortable with the window open.
The ensuite bathroom had a walk-in shower, sink and toilet. The showstopper was the giant copper tub just begging to be used. Complimentary bath salts were provided, so you bet that I took advantage of this luxury!
It should be noted that two of the six suites accommodate families at this hotel, with the addition of one single bed added to the room.

The Location of The Kings Arms in Egham and Why it’s the Best Place to Stay near Heathrow
While I’ve already mentioned the close proximity to Heathrow Airport from this hotel (only 15 minutes drive), I’d like to dive into some other great things to see in the surrounding area.
Find out why this is the best place to stay in London near Heathrow Airport.
Magna Carta (4 mins away by car): I’ve always been fascinated with The Magna Carta having spent 20 years practicing Real Estate under the ‘Common Law’. So, a trip to the location of the historic signing of the Magna Carta was a must. The artistic rendition of the table sat at by the Barons is on display in the field, along with a large commemorative pavilion.
Runnymede Pleasure Grounds (3 mins away by car): Set on the most picturesque place on The Thames River is a beautiful park containing a splash pad and playground for kids, boat rides, and winding pathways. Grab a tea or coffee at the Runnymede Cafe before you head out to stroll around.
Windsor Castle (12 mins away by car): You’ll be amazed to learn that the beautiful Windsor Castle, home to King Charles III is only a short distance away from The Kings Arms in Egham.
Open to visitors throughout the year, and founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 40 monarchs.
Thorpe Park Resort (12 mins away by car): This amazing amusement park is located less than 15 minutes from The Kings Arms hotel. We spent a fun-filled afternoon here riding the thrill rides and tasting the carnival treats. Fast passes available for an extra fee, and if you’re short on time – I recommend buying them.
The Food at The Kings Arms in Egham
Yum! The food at The Kings Arms pub was not only beautifully presented, but tasted amazing as well.
There are swaths of seating for hungry guests at this pub. You have your choice of sitting inside the building itself, or in the beautiful green menagerie with retractable roof. The menagerie is the perfect place for a quintessential afternoon tea which is served from 12-5 from Monday – Saturday.
We thoroughly enjoyed our both dinner and dessert the pub, and could taste the fresh home-grown British ingredients. Depending on the time you book, you may be money towards your evening meal.
Breakfast is included with your stay at this pub & hotel. It went beyond our expectations! The restaurant was very quiet when we woke up for the day. Our hostess was already waiting for us; she gracious and kind, and the food arrived quickly.

FAQ
Let’s dive into some common question I get from people traveling around London and in and out of Heathrow Airport.
How to Get Around Near Heathrow Airport
It is possible to get around central London without a car and utilizing The Tube. There is a Tube Station in Egham; but I would recommend taking a taxi, uber or renting a car to get to the attractions nearby as quickly as possible from The Kings Arms Pub. Walking is going to take you a long time!
We rent our cars from my partner site Car Rental Net. I’ve used them for over a decade and always have a positive experience.

How to Get to Heathrow Airport from The Kings Arms
If you don’t have a car rental, you can easily get to Heathrow Airport from the Egham Tube Station, or by taxi/uber. A taxi or uber should cost around £20.
What’s the Weather Like at The Kings Arms in Egham
It really depends on the time of year! I’ve traveled to the UK in all different months. In the winter-time from Nov-Feb you can almost guarantee you’ll have rain.
If you visit in the summer, it might be +30 degree out like it was when we stayed here. Check the forecast ahead of time, and plan your wardrobe accordingly.
How to Stay in Contact while in the United Kingdom
When I travel overseas, I take my own mobile phone and love to stay in contact with family and friends back home. I used to go and buy a new physical SIM card from a local store like O2 UK or EE. Now I just download an E-SIM right on my phone.
Technology has come a long way, and someone finally figured out how to make traveling even more convenient all while trying to stay connected. Using an E-SIM while Abroad can seem confusing at first, but once you read my post on it; and have done it at least once – it will come naturally!
Summary
Upon check-out, we were again greeted by the manager of the pub and asked about our stay. We found the customer service at this pub and hotel to be top notch.
We would definitely recommend it to our friends, family and anyone looking for the best place to stay near Heathrow Airport.
Happy Travels,
Tanya
Pro Tip: Grab an >> Oyster Card for Tourists << to get around easily on The Underground Tube lines.
Oooh I would be tempted to stay there just for the food! The breakfast looks fab and the room looks cozy (and not so boring /corporate!)
We tend to jump straight onto the tube and stay further into central London when we visit… but the Kings Arms looks like a better option (especially if you just want a quick cab to the airport!)
p.s. You’re back in the UK!? Woot woot. 🙂
What a great idea! We’ve stayed at various Heathrow airport hotels, but they are just that, a place to sleep for the night. The pub sounds like a fun experience!
The little details at this hotel are so cute! Love all the food too, this looks like an amazing place to stay near Heathrowe.
