Let’s dive into Anaheim and discover the top spots that will keep your little ones entertained and happy.
27 Things To Do In Anaheim With Kids
There are SO many things to do in Anaheim with kids, and after visiting the city with my family several times, we have picked up loads of tips and tricks.
The weather is always beautiful, and with so many direct flights across North America or Europe to either LAX or John Wayne, Anaheim is the perfect place to spend a week or so with kids both young and old.
GETTING THERE: Car Rentals
I have traveled to Anaheim both with, and without a car rental. I managed to get around just fine with my son and other family members without a car; we utilized uber/lyft quite a bit. But, if you want to open up the possibilities of things you can do and see; I’d recommend renting one.
The last trip we took we rented a car from my rental partner – CarRental Net and scored ourselves an awesome deal. It was $233USD for a Dodge Charger for 7 days with unlimited milage. Check out my partner company below.
GETTING THERE: Airport Transfer
If you’re looking to steer clear of the traffic in Los Angeles and would rather have someone pick you up from the airport, I recommend booking with Karmel Transportation.

1. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure
- This activity is best for: kids ages 0-99
Of course the number one recommendation for things to do in Anaheim with kids is going to be Disneyland! We LOVE Disneyland, and it’s a big reason we’ve made our way down from Canada into this area more than once.
Disneyland has two parks to offer. The original playground: Disneyland Park is the park Walt Disney created and designed himself, and the second newer park of Disney California Adventure (DCA).
The two parks have different hours. Disneyland is open longer from 8am-12pm. DCA is open from 8am – 10pm.
My family and I typically go just after opening to miss the initial rush of people. We spend the morning there and head back for a break around lunch for a couple of hours. It’s lovely to either hit the pool to cool down from the hot California sun by taking a quick nap.
We head back to the park around supper time and might grab a reservation either at a Downtown Disney restaurant or in the park we have a pass to that day.
Reservations must be made in advance for the park you wish to enter on a particular day. You cannot just show up to the park, as it might be at capacity already.
My suggestion is to download and utilize the Disneyland app on the app store to link everything and make all your reservations. Reservations for the most popular Disneyland restaurants are definitely recommended as well, but there are always opportunities to get on a wait-list (walk-up) once inside the park.
— > A website that I love to utilize is Get Away Today. They are a verified theme park partner, and offer many competitive advantages such as packaging hotel and theme park tickets together and offering lay-away options. Check out the link here: Get Away Today < —–
Disneyland – Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, CA 92802
2. Downtown Disney District
- This activity is best for: kids ages 0-99
Downtown Disney is wedged in between the two Disneyland Parks, and doesn’t require a ticket to enter. This is a great stop if you arrive late from the airport and want to immerse your family in Disney right away.
Downtown Disney offers amazing entertainment at the Disney LIVE! Stage. Live performances from talented musicians and incredible entertainers are available on select nights. Go bowling, enjoy food and live entertainment at Splitsville Lanes, a local institution at Disneyland!
Enjoy 21 dining options including a brand new Taiwanese restaurant Din Tai Fung (reservations are must!). Other favorites like Tiendita, which is a Mexican food restaurant, the Earl of Sandwich, and food inspired by New Orleans Creole cuisine are just a small sampling of the extensive dining options here.
There are 20 different places to shop including a massive World of Disney store, and the Star Wars Trading Post. Get your park gear ahead of time by stopping by Downtown Disney before heading into the amusement parks!
Downtown Disney – Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, CA 92802
3. Knott’s Berry Farm
- This activity is best for: kids ages 0-99
This once small family farm in the Anaheim area has transformed into an exciting theme park! Located only minutes from away from the Disney hotel zone in Anaheim, this is definitely something you should do in Anaheim with kids! The park is normally open from 10 – 6pm everyday.
There are 8 roller coasters for kids looking for a little more adventure! I recommend checking the height requirements on Knotts Berry’s website if you’re planning on taking young children. The park doesn’t accept cash, so bring a card.
Visiting Knott’s Berry between the park Mondays – Thursdays will get you the lowest wait times for the attractions. Download the user-friendly app to help you navigate your day. You can grab an all day eating pass and eat your way through the park (you have to try the funnel cakes!)
There are several seasonal offerings at the park from The Boysenberry Festival to Knott’s Scary Farm – these are fun ways to enjoy extra festivities at the park!
Recently they’ve implemented a chaperone policy at the park. Under this policy, all guests ages 15 years old or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old in order to be admitted to or remain in the park.
—- > I highly recommend getting the GO CITY PASS L.A. For one low price it includes entrance to 40+ attractions in the greater L.A. area INCLUDING Knotts Berry Farm. < —-
Knott’s Berry Farm – 8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park
4. Adventure City
- This activity is best for: kids ages 1-9
This little amusement park located in Anaheim is big on family fun! With ticket prices as low as $29.99, this is the perfect little park to introduce children to the world of amusement rides. There are plenty of attractions for smaller children to enjoy, with a couple of mid-level roller coasters for older siblings.
Parking is free, and the staff are very friendly! They have typical theme park food offerings such as candy apples, ice cream and burgers. You can always get a coffee fix by snagging a Starbucks in the park!
They are open 10-5 on weekdays, and 10-8pm on weekends. They do close for extended periods over the winter, but have seasonal event offerings – be sure to check the availability calendar on their website. If you’re looking for something to do in Anaheim with smaller kids, check out Adventure city!
Adventure City – 1238 South Beach Blvd, Anaheim
5. Discovery Cube Orange County
- This activity is best for: kids ages 5-14
This is a super fun educational center with an emphasis on developing children’s minds through hands-on exhibits. It’s such a great thing to do in Anaheim with kids, and it’s located only 10 minutes by car from Disneyland. If you’re looking for a place to cool off and take a break from the hot California sun, don’t miss out on this amazing location!
This museum repeatedly get 5 star reviews on Trip Advisor and Google Reviews. It is geared towards children aged 5-14 years old. Inside you’ll find a mini aquarium, exhibits on things like: earthquakes, weather, dinosaurs, and the science of hockey and helicopters.
Favorite activities include a smoke tornado and the interactive marine life tank. Discovery Cube’s mission is: “we strive to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve and inspire the next generation of scientific thinkers.”
This fun, interactive museum is one of the best things to do in the city of Anaheim with kids.
Discovery Cube is open daily from 10-5. Admission is $18 for kids, and $23 for adults.
Discovery Cube – 2500 N Main Street, Santa Ana
6. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
- This activity is best for: kids ages 4-14
My family loves to get together and enjoy a fun, interactive and exciting dinner service at Medieval Times! Book tickets in advance and watch the different teams spar in the open area. Be wow’d by amazing birds of prey displays and enjoy a 3 course set dinner menu.
We will come back again and again for this kind of fun! I recommend booking seats in the first two rows, that way you get to be up close to the actors and all the action taking place in front of you. The horsemanship is quite the spectacle, and it really gives you an appreciation for the actors AND horses!
Shows are available daily. Check the schedule on their website here: https://purchase.medievaltimes.com/tickets/showtime
Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament – 7662 Beach Blvd, Buena Park
7. Pirate’s Dinner Adventure
- This activity is best for: kids ages 4-14
Taking your kids to a dinner show is one of the best things do in Anaheim! The Pirate’s Dinner Adventure is located in Buena Park, right beside the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. Having done both of them, I would say that if your kids are into getting up on stage and interacting with the actors, chose the Pirates Dinner.
Medieval times is more of a show, but you get to participate by cheering your knight on. It’s a similar concept at Pirate’s – you cheer your colored Pirate on in his adventures. I found the pirates to be quite cheeky!
Both shows are amazing, although there was more acrobatics involved with the Pirate Dinner, along with incorporating water elements.
Book your tickets ahead of time, and I recommend trying to grab the first 2 rows for seating. Shows are available daily. Check their website for the schedule.
—- > We scored really great seats and ticket prices here. < —-
Pirates Adventure Dinner – 7600 Beach Blvd, Buena Park
8. Anaheim Garden Walk
- This activity is best for: kids ages 0-99
Anaheim Garden walk is a fun place to browse! It is an entire city block, on 2 levels filled with shops, restaurants, and entertainment with entrances from the outside. There are often vendors set up in the central walk-way with different food and merchandise options (similar to a farmers market).
There are 22 different restaurant options including fan favorites like the Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Changs, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Shopping options not as plentiful as restaurant and entertainment, with 12 smaller stores with things like a gift shop, pet store and beauty supply.
Entertainment options are plentiful with 19 different options to choose from with such things like an Escape Room, AMC Theater, Magic Cafe, VR rooms, and a Flight Simulator (Flightdeck, which I’ll talk more about below).
It’s definitely worth a stop in this area if you’re in Anaheim. It’s very kid friendly, and some places even allow pets. I’ve linked the directory and pet friendly stores below.

9. Flightdeck Flight Simulation Center
- This activity is best for: kids ages 10+
This activity is awesome for kids and adults alike who love to fly or race, or are interested in aeronautics or cars. It’s conveniently located in at the Anaheim Garden Walk; only a 4 minute walk from the Disneyland Esplanade, or directly behind the hotel zone on Harbor Blvd. Closed on Mondays.
Flight Simulators: there are two types of flight simulators. The first is the Fighter Jet Simulator where you fly a F18 fighter jet. The second is the Boeing 737 simulator. No experience is necessary for either simulator, but you must be at least 10 years old and over 4’10”.
After donning your flight suit, listen closely in the classroom where you’ll learn really important stuff like how to shoot down enemy aircraft or what jinking is. The lesson lasts around 30 minutes.
Once in your cockpit, adjust your headset and you’ll be cleared for your catapult launch from the aircraft carrier in your F/A-18. You’ll be entered into a “dog fight” with all the other participants for your time slot; there is space for up to 8 pilots!
There is plenty of room with chairs and couches for spectators to watch in the cool airconditioned building. There is a spot for up to 5 guests to watch behind the Boeing 737 simulator. Depending on the package you choose, the prices range from $59.00 – $309.00USD.
Racing Simulator: Drive the world’s fastest race cars while taking on the world’s most challenging race tracks! The helpful staff will help you navigate the controls and tracks if this is your first time. Racing prices run from $39.00 – $69.00.
Light, comfortable clothing is recommended. Sandals are allowed but might make using the rudder pedals or gas and brake pedals a bit more difficult. Grouping a flight and racing simulator together as a package will get you 15% off!
Flight Deck Simulator – 400 Disney Way, Anaheim
10. Anaheim Ducks Hockey Game
This activity is best for: kids ages 4+
Hockey fans in the house? If you happen to be in Anaheim during the regular season which runs from October – April, check out tickets to a Ducks game at the Honda Center!
Tickets are all digital, and the Honda center has a “no bag” policy. There is plenty of concession food, but please note that the stadium is “cashless”.
Parking is very limited, but can be purchased ahead of time. The Honda center isn’t far from Disney, only a 10 minute drive. You can easily Uber/Lyft there, or take the Anaheim Regional Transport buses (ART).

11. Angel Stadium
- This activity is best for: kids ages 4+
Take Me Out To The Ball Game! We hit a homerun while visiting Angel Stadium this year. What an absolute blast! It’s only a 10 minute drive from Harbor Blvd.
Be sure to take something red with you, or better yet, grab some Los Angeles Angels merchandise while at the stadium!
This was a great team and game to watch. We picked a Saturday night, and the stadium was packed with fans! Nearby fans were so welcoming to us, the atmosphere was really family friendly and electric.
We lucked out, and got to experience “Christmas in June” as a theme night. Free beanies for everyone!
Lots of great choices to eat and drink (although it is VERY expensive). It was $9USD for a small hot dog. We loved the Redvines licorice – we don’t have those in Canada!
There is more parking availability at Angels Stadium, but get there early because there is limited ways in and out. Traffic was heavy! We opted to use an Uber, and although on the way there it was only around $9, upon exiting we were hit with surge pricing at it jumped to $30 for a 10 minute ride.
This venue is also “cashless” and operates a “no bag” policy. This keeps lines running smoothly, and everybody safe. You are allowed to bring in your own water and food, as long as it’s in factory sealed packaging.

Angels Stadium – 2000 Gene Autry Way, Anaheim

FAQs
There are always plenty of google searches on Anaheim. Many people get confused if they’re not familiar with the different Disney Parks in the USA. DisneyLAND is located in Anaheim, California on the West Coast of the United States, and Disney WORLD is located in the state of Florida in Orlando, on the East Coast of the United States.
25. How close is Anaheim to the beach?
California is such a great state, but it is huge! Anaheim is just a small (but awesome) part of that state. I really recommend you take a day to head out of the Anaheim area and go to the beach to see what else there is to be discovered in this beautiful area.
My family and I recently reviewed 6 of the best beaches close to Anaheim. Each one is only about 30 minutes away with good traffic. Check out the full post about the beaches near Anaheim.
If you’re looking for the most activities to do around a beach near Anaheim, I recommend Long Beach.
Long Beach has plenty of white expansive sand for everyone, an old passenger ship turned hotel that offer tours, outlet malls, the Shoreline Village shopping district and The Aquarium of the Pacific.
BONUS: Guided Tours – No Car Necessary
If you don’t want to rent a car, guided tours are available with transportation drop off and pick up from your hotel near Disneyland.
Travel to Long Beach and then take a ferry over to Catalina Island for a full day. These are offered as small tour groups at up to 10 people.

26. What is in Anaheim besides Disneyland?
Anaheim has a rich history in the state of California. From Orange Groves to Vineyards. This was mostly an area of agriculture before Walt Disney decided to build his dream here. Today, there is so much to do and discover in the city of Anaheim.
You’ll find amazing sports to watch whether that by NHL or MLB, many waterpark and playgrounds, other theme parks with exciting thrill rides, dinner theater, museums and history. Go explore the city, meet the friendly people and it’ll leave you wanting to come back again and again.
27. Is Anaheim worth visiting?
Anaheim is definitely worth visiting! There are so many fun activities to do in Anaheim as we discussed above, and the weather is phenomenal!
You can reach Anaheim easily from many major cities around the world thanks to the Los Angeles Airport being a hub city. You can also reach Anaheim a little quicker by landing at the John Wayne Airport or arriving via Amtrak train at one of the many locations in and around Anaheim.
The people in Anaheim are friendly and welcoming. Our experience has been stellar, and I would recommend this area to any of my friends or family!
